Abstract

Articles such as fireproof flooring tiles, ceiling panels, roof tiles &c. are prepared by mixing cement or plaster, a granular material such as sand, silica, or asbestos, a synthetic resin in powder form, water and, if desired, a colouring material, moulding and allowing to set, then heating to the softening-point of the resin to cause the resin to diffuse through the mass, and finally cooling. The resin may be a methacrylic resin, a polycarbonate, polyacetal, a vinylidene chloride polymer, polyethylene, or polypropylene.
