997,477. Vehicle lamp reflectors. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. June 11, 1963 [June 18, 1962], No. 23296/62. Heading F4R A reflector for a vehicle lamp intended to provide a spread beam a short distance in front of the vehicle, comprises a pair of concave parabolic reflecting surfaces meeting in a pair of radially extending steps inclined to one another at an angle between 100 degrees and 175 degrees. The reflector which may be moulded in plastics material with the concave side rendered light reflecting has an upper part 10a of parabolic form with its joins at X at or adjacent to and beyond the rear end of a horizontal axially arranged filament 13 and a lower part 10b also of parabolic form with it s focus at Y at or adjacent to and beyond the front end of the filament 13. The edges of the parts 10a, 10b meet in a horizontal step on the near side of the vehicle and in a step inclined downward at 165 degrees to the horizontal step on the offside of the vehicle. Preferably the axis of the upper part lies adjacent the bottom and the axis of the lower part lies adjacent the top of the filament. To avoid the formation of a dark region in the vicinity of the axis of the lamp, part of the reflector in the region of the step may be slightly deformed or part or the whole of the reflector may be fluted or provided with prismatic ribs. The reflector may be used in a sealed beam headlamp.
