Abstract
The pintle wire of a "slipper seam" comprises a central core of a synthetic plastic material, which has a high resistance to abrasion and torsional resilience sufficient to allow it to yield under torsional stress and thus prevent permanent kinks developing therein, and one or more separate layers of a braiding of wear-resistant synthetic material, one or more of which layers have been resin-coated after application to the core or a preceding layer thereon. The core may be a mono-filament, multifilament, or staple fibre yarn of nylon, acrylic or polyester resin and may be resin-coated before the braiding is applied. The core and the first layer may be bonded (by the resin) or the layer may be movable relative to the core. The braiding yarn may be of nylon or polyethylene terephthalate. The resin coating may be an epoxy-polyamide mixture, urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde, melamine formaldehyde or epoxy-bonded molybdenum di-sulphide.
