Abstract

996,821. Keying carrier frequencies. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 21, 1961 [Sept. 29, 1960], No. 33552/60. Heading H3R. [Also in Division H1] Coupling between the conjugate arms of a hybrid microwave structure is controlled by diodes arranged in the remaining arms. The hybrid circuit may comprise a narrow-wall 3 db. directional coupler 6 arranged between a pair of rectangular waveguides providing branches 1, 2, 3, 4. Input energy applied through branch 1 is divided between branches 3 and 4 and either reflected or passed by diodes 9, 10. Reflected energy is combined by the coupler and passes to the output branch 2. Energy passed by the diodes is absorbed in carbonyl iron loads 7, 8. The state of the diodes is controlled by a potential applied via terminal posts 14. The hybrid circuit may take the form of a magic-T 21, 22, 23, 24, Fig. 3, the diodes being arranged in the symmetrical arms and spaced as indicated. A ring hybrid circuit of coaxial lines may be used.
