Abstract
996,600. Bristle fixing. W. WESSEL. Sept. 28, 1961 [Oct. 31, 1960], No. 34793/61. Heading A4K. In making a brush for attachment to a base bundles of bristles 3 are inserted into holes 2 in the top of a soft body 1 via the ends of the holes at the surface from which the bristles are to project, the holes being widened inwardly and the bundles secured by a plastic or like material capable of setting or hardening in the hole to form a plug 4. The holes may extend through the body 1 or they may be blind holes. In a body having blind holes, Fig. 3e, the securing material is introduced into the holes before inserting the bristles. In a body having through-holes, the securing material is introduced subsequently from the rear. Fig. 3d shows connecting grooves 2b provided between pairs of holes on the rear face of the brush body, so that the securing material 4 fills the grooves to form a connecting rear anchor. Various blind and through-hole formations are described. The bundles of bristles may be previously bound or unbound before insertion.
