[Also in Division B2] Shaped articles of clothing such as foundation garments, swimming and skin diving suits are made by stretching a layer of tubular nylon or cotton stockinette over a former 1 closed at one end, dipping it into a natural or synthetic rubber latex or a vinyl plastisol, withdrawing it before the latex penetrates the fabric and dipping the coated fabric into coagulant solution to set the latex. The stockinette may be impregnated with coagulant solution before being dipped in latex. The upper and lower edges of the girdle to be made on the former 1 are defined by grooves 2 and a further groove 3 receives an elastic band (not shown) which retains the stockinette in position and prevents latex reaching the inner surface of the girdle during dipping. For the same purpose, at the end remote from the groove 3 the stockinette is sewn up to form a bag, or a further groove 3 is provided in the former. There may be further alternate dippings in latex and coagulate, reinforcing panels, stiffeners or panels of different stretch characteristics being incorporated in the stockinette at least before the final dipping in the latex. The coated fabric is washed in hot water, dried and vulcanised and finished by flockspraying, punching, sewing or by chlorination. The garment is detached by running a knife along the grooves 2. Lace may be attached alng the upper and lower edges.
