Abstract

995,562. Laying down road material. JOHN LAING RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. May 10, 1963 [June 15, 1962], No. 23136/62. Heading EIG. [Also in Division A1] A machine for distributing granular material comprises a conveyer 2a which feeds material from a hopper 5 and a flat plate 9 which lies under the upper rim of the conveyer and is shaped so that material is pushed over the edge of the plate by the conveyer. The conveyer is made up of bars of triangular section. Adjustable gates 8 control the amount of material leaving the hopper and a blade 17 controls the depth of material laid. As shown the machine is formed as a self-propelled mobile chassis 1 and the hopper is filled by means of a tipping lorry. In a modification the conveyer may be mounted on wheels which run on rails. The return rim of the conveyer may be agitated to remove loose material adhering thereto.
