Abstract

995,215. Belt-feed mechanisms. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES S.A. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 21, 1962], No. 49344/63. Heading F3C. A belt feed mechanism for an automatic firearm comprises a first rotary element 13 rotated by every recoil of the firearm through an angle corresponding to the pitch of a toothed rotor 14 which is coaxial with the first element. Angular play corresponding to a portion of the complete pitch is provided between the elements 13, 14 which is maintained by a prestressed torsional resilient system such that if during a given power impulse the rotor does not turn through a sufficient angle under the effect of the resilient system the rotor is torsionally urged until the play being eliminated, the first element imperatively drives the rotor by abutment against it. The resilient system is constituted by two torsion bars 15, 16, one inside the other, and connected together at end 18, whilst they are connected at their other ends to the first element 13 and the rotor 14. As shown, the firearm comprises a breech block 3 urged forward by a spring 4 and controlled by a gas tap 5. The whole firearm is mounted on a fixed support 6 on which is mounted the feed mechanism 9. Recoil of the whole firearm with respect to the support 6 actuates the feed mechanism through a finger 4 which acts as a cam between fixed roller 25 and movable roller 26 to move the latter upwardly and so rotate the first rotary member 13 via push-piece 31, pivoted lever 27 and interengaging teeth on the lever 27 and the element 13. The latter is connected through an undirectional clutch to a driving piece 17 which is connected with the above-mentioned play to the sleeve 38 of the rotor via dogs 39 and is also connected to the sleeve 38 via the bars 15, 16 having splined connections with the driving piece 17 and the sleeve 38, respectively. The driving piece 17 is prevented from rotating in the reverse direction by a pawl-and-ratchet device 41, 40. The passage of the last cartridge of the belt past a portion of the rotor permits a spring-loaded lever to be released to actuate means to stop firing. At least two cartridges remain in the mechanism after the firing is stopped. Specification 712,867 is referred to.
