994,742. Tablets containing anthelmintics. WELLCOME FOUNDATION Ltd. Aug. 17, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960; May 4, 1961], Nos. 31223/60 and 16180/61. Headings A5B. A tablet for human or veterinary use as an anthelmintic comprises an inner portion which contains a quaternary ammonium salt containing a cation of formula wherein R is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, methyl or nitro when L is a phenyl group optionally substituted in the ortho position with clorine, bromine, fluorine or methyl; or is hydrogen, halogen, methyl or nitro when L is a thienyl group; and an outer portion which completely surrounds the inner portion and contains a salt of piperazine. Typical salts are N,N-dimethyl - N - 2 - phenoxyethyl - N - benzyl ammonium chloride, p-chlorobenzenesulphonate salt of N,N-dimethyl-N-2-phenoxyethyl- N 2<SP>1</SP> - thenylammonium cation, piperazine phosphate and piperazine citrate. The inner portion forms a core 1 surrounded by the outer portion 2 which may not be uniform in thickness and which may contain a hole (Fig. III, not shown) or score 3 (Figs. IV and V) which does not extend into the inner core 1. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 829,507.
