Abstract

<PICT:0994148/C6-C7/1> In a halide diffusion coating process such as chromizing the metal to be coated e.g. iron is packed in a container 2, in a coating medium such as 2 parts ferrochrome, 1 part kaolin and 0.1% of iodine as ammonium iodide, and sealed by a lid 6 and a channel 4 containing a fusible material e.g. glass, the pressure during the process being balanced via conduit 11 which is sealed by glass in another channel 9. An inert gas is supplied via conduit 11 during cooling.
