Abstract

994,018. Feeding webs. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 23, 1964 [March 22, 1963], No. 12117/64. Heading B6B. [Also in Division G2] A web 10, Fig. 1, is fed through a series of photographic processing tanks 12-14 (developing, fixing, washing) and a dryer 15 to a takeup reel 16 driven by a motor 17, which may also drive some of guide rollers 18. The web is threaded through the apparatus at normal working speed by means of a towbar 20, to which the leading end of the web is attached, and which follows the processing path on a chain-drive 22 driven by a motor 19. After the towbar 20, Figs. 1 and 2, has drawn the web round a take-up spool core 24 provided with an activated glue, it strikes a trip arm 32, causing a lever 30 to force the web against the core. The bar then actuates a cutter mechanism 38, 40 to sever the end of the web, an arm 42 to restore the lever 30, and a member 44 to open a switch 29, stop the motor 19 and bring the towbar to rest in the position shown in Fig. 1, the severed end of the web being removed so that the bar is ready to receive a new web. A feeler 27 responsive to the absence of a web or loss of web tension controls a switch 26 for the motor 17, which however is maintained in operation by an interlock link 28 while the motor 19 is in operation. A grounded shield is provided below the web path to the reel 16 to protect the processed web from electrostatic distortion.
