Abstract
Optically active isomers of glutamic acid are separated from a supersaturated solution of the racemic acid or a salt thereof by seeding said supersaturated solution at an elevated temperature with seed crystals of the desired isomer having a particle size within the range of 0.1 to 20 m diameter. Salts are, for example, sodium, potassium, hydrobromide and hydrochloride. Crystallization is preferably stopped within the log period, viz. the period occurring before crystals of the opposite antipode also begin to form.
