Abstract
A curable composition comprises a thermosetting resin which is a copolymer of a C4-C6 conjugated diolefin and 0.5 to 40% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, together with from 0.5-10% by weight, based on the thermosetting resin of N-vinyl pyrrolidone. The thermosetting resin is preferably a co-polymer of 1,3-butadiene and from 10-35 wt. per cent of styrene. The composition may also contain a reinforcing agent such as glass fibres and woven glass cloth. The compositions may also contain one or more cross-linking agents, e.g. divinyl benzene and/or one or more unsaturated organic silanes, e.g. vinyl silane and/or one or more catalytic curing agents of the usual type. The example relates to impregnating 12 plies of woven cloth of glass fibre with the above type of resin mix and curing at high temperature and pressure.
