992,746. Winding wire on hose. C. OSTERMANN, and M. OSTERMANN, [trading as W. & M. OSTERMANN (Firm of)]. March 6, 1962 [March 29, 1961], No. 8658/62. Heading B3E. A winding device for winding a wire on to a rubber core, particularly a rubber suction hose, comprises a reel carrying the wire to be wound on to the rubber hose, and a rotatable guide member for guiding said wire when being reeled off said reel to the point of application on said rubber hose. Rubber hose 15 on a mandrel 5 is pulled through bushings 6, 16 on which are rotatably mounted a reel 9 of wire 10 and a flanged sleeve 21 carrying, on rods 24, 25, an arcuate guide member 27. The sleeve 21 is rotated by a pinion 35 and the guide 27 lays the wire on the hose 15 as it issues from the bush 16, the wire passing over rolls 30 and adjustable rolls 33 on the guide 27, the rolls 33 acting to give the wire a set to ensure that it coils tightly on to the hose 15. The reel 9 is rotated by the wire 10 as it is pulled thereoff and is braked by a brake clutch 14, 18 to maintain tension in the wire. A plurality of reels in series may supply wire for winding a plurality of wires simultaneously. The mandrel 5 and bushing 16 may be replaced by a supporting tube. Instead of wires interlocking bands may be wound.
