Abstract

992,125. Regulating and charging I.C. engines; gas turbine plant; power plant; centrifugal blowers. R. POUIT. March 5, 1962 [March 11, 1961], No. 8449/62. Headings F1B, F1C, F1G and F1Q. In a diesel engine in which a by-pass conduit 8, Fig. 1, connects a blower delivery conduit 6 to the intake conduit 4 of a turbine 3, the ratio of the fuel quantity injected before inner dead centre to the fuel quantity injected after inner dead centre is reduced as the supercharging pressure increases and vice versa. Pedal 14 moves rods 15 and 17 in the direction of arrow to increase fuel injection before the inner dead centre by a camshaft-driven pump 11 1 until arm 16 1 engages cam 21 whereupon movement of rod 18 increases fuel injection after the inner dead centre by a pump 11 2 . Lever 30 acts through a chain drive 31 on fork 32, lever 33 and cam 21 and also on a valve 9 which progressively bypasses supercharging air to the turbine intake. For prestarting of the turbine or during slow running of the engine fuel may be injected in chamber 22. An excess pressure discharge valve 34 may be provided. A free wheel 25 and speedreducing gear 26 between turbine shaft 23 and engine shaft 24 increases the delivery torque when a low engine speed is combined with a high turbine speed. The compression ratio of the blower 2 is varied by means of chain 31, Fig. 3, which rotates toothed wheel 45, lever 46, swivel joint 47, and annular member 44 to incline blades 40 which are connected to fixed stator 42 thus varying the angle at which air enters the rotor 2a.
