Abstract

772,392. Regulating. AKTIESELSKABET BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYGZERI. July 8, 1955 [July 24, 1954], No. 19833/55. Class 7 (6). In two-stroke engines in which the whole or a substantial part of the scavenging and charging air is supplied by turbo-blowers, the times of opening the exhaust valve and commencement of fuel injection are advanced at loads substantially below normal. Mechanically-driven blowers may assist the turboblowers or act as stand-by. As shown, a shaft 1 carries a cam 2 which actuates the exhaust valve through a roller 4, push rod 5 and a rocker arm, and a cam 3 for actuating the fuel pump through a roller 6 and a push rod. The roller 4 can be moved in the direction p<SP>1</SP> to advance the exhaust valve opening by pulling downwardly on a rod 12 pivoted to an arm 11 keyed to a shaft 10 carrying an eccentric sheave 9 on which is mounted a strap 8 pivoted to the rod 5 at 7. The rod 12 simultaneously operates a similar device for adjusting the fuel pump timing. The rod 12 may be operated manually or the shaft 10 may be coupled to the load adjustment member of the engine for automatic operation, e.g. to a member which determines the output of the fuel pump. The eccentricity of the sheave 9 for moving the roller 4 may be different from that acting on the roller 6, and the lengths of the members 8 may be adjustable. The shaft 10 may be that used for transverse movement of the rollers 4, 6 for reversing the engine.
