Abstract

991,429. Electric cigar lighters. CASCO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Aug. 9, 1962 [April 17, 1962], No. 30534/62. Heading F4F. In an electric cigar lighter having a removable plug adapted to be energized in a socket mounted on an automobile dashboard and comprising a cup 18 containing a spirally wound igniting coil 17, a spacer 37 is interposed between the bottom of the cup 18 and the inner surface of the coil 17 to ensure that the inner end of the coil is positioned behind the major portion of the coil. The spacer 37 which may be made of ceramic material having good heat reflectivity has three equispaced radial ribs 41 of triangular cross-section which engage the inner surface of the coil 17. The coil 17 is welded at its outer end 24 to the cup 18 and at its inner end 23 to a slot 22 in a centrally disposed rivet 21. The rivet 21 secures the cup 18, a ceramic block 26, and a metallic tubular member 31 together, and is insulated from the cup by a mica disc 19. An inner sleeve 34 and an outer sleeve 35 encircle the plug and a spring 36 is disposed between the tubular member 31 and the sleeve 34 to retain the plug in the opencircuit position in the socket. Bimetallic contact fingers in the socket releasably hold the plug during energization against the action of the spring 36.
