Abstract

1,023,161. Electric smokers' lighters. CASCO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Sept. 18, 1964 [Oct. 14, 1963], No. 38143/64. Heading F4F. An electric smokers' lighter igniting plug 11, Fig. 1 (not shown), which is removed from a socket 12 for igniting cigars or cigarettes comprises a handle 22 and a metal cup 23 secured to a plug body 26 and a spirally wound resistance coil 27 welded at one end to the cup 23 adapted to be connected to one pole of an electrical supply, and its other end being secured in a slot in a central stud 32 insulated from the cup 23 and in electrical contact with the plug body 26 connected to the other pole of the electrical supply, the coil 27 being spaced from the bottom 39 of the cup 23 to provide a heat insulating space. In operation, the plug 11 is pushed against a spring 25 into the socket 12 so that the cup is engaged and held by bimetallic fingers 16a connected to an electrical supply and which are heated by the coil 27 to release the plug 11 which then may be withdrawn from the socket 12 for igniting tobacco. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the coil 27 is supported by an electrically-insulating mica disc 40 but in another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the coil 27 is supported by a mica or ceramic tube coaxial with the cup 23 and engaging the outer turns of the coil and the cup bottom 39.
