Abstract
991,294. Contact members for switches. A. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd. Jan. 17, 1962, No. 1801/62. Heading H2B. A switch contact member comprises a contact arm 22 integral with and extending at rightangles from one end of a torsion rod 23 which is guided at said end against lateral displacement and anchored at its other end against axial rotation. Each contact member 15 comprises a hard-drawn copper or iron cored copper rod folded double with an eye 20 formed at the fold, the double rod then being bent at 21 to L-shape. Two such contacts are anchored to a T-shaped support 12 by a bolt 24 passing through their eyes 20, and are guided adjacent the bend 21 by triangular plates 27 suitably spaced from the support. The outer ends of contact arms 22 are kinked to provide contact surfaces 32 for engagement with a co-operating blade contact (19, Figs. 2, 3, not shown). The torsion-rod 23 may be prestressed to increase contact pressure. In a modification (not shown) the arms 22 may be arranged to permit movement towards one another, against the action of the torsion rod, for engagement with rigid or resilient jaws of a co-operating contact. The contact member may be employed as either fixed or moving contact and in the latter case may co-operate either with a fixed or with a moving contact.
