Abstract
991,245. Tentering fabrics. G. MOHRING. April 20, 1964 [April 20, 1963], No. 16357/64. Heading D1S. A tenter clip comprises a body 11 having a protruding arm 11c a support lever 24 pivoted at 23 to the body 11, a magnet 25 mounted in a recess 24b on the lever 24, and a gripping lever 19 pivoted at 18 to the end of the arm 11c to grip a fabric 14 and being movable between an operative position, Fig. 1, in engagement with the fabric 14 and a spaced-apart inoperative position, Fig. 2; the lever 19 having a surface 22 engaging an attracting surface of the magnet 25 when the lever 19 is in the inoperative position, to hold the lever 19 in this position, pivotal movement of the lever 24 moving the magnet 25 in a direction to break the engagement of said surfaces so as to allow the lever 19 to drop from the inoperative to the operative position. An arm 11a on the body 11 carries a shaft 12 engaged by a chain 15 and carrying a wheel 13 engaging a stationary retaining ledge 30a. Alternative gripping means (not shown), e.g. a needle bar, situated on a lower portion 17 of the body 11 may be used instead of or together with the lever 19. The fabric 14 is supported on a surface 16 on an arm 11b which rests, through a slide shoe 32, on a stationary surface 30b. The lever 19 carries a fabric gripping plate 20 and a feeler roller 21. The surface 22 is formed by a magnetizable armature and the magnet 25 extends through an aperture 11d in the arm 11c. A contact surface 24d is provided on an arm 24c of the lever 24 for control means 26 which may be a stationary mounted roller. In use, with the device in the position of Fig. 2, when the clip reaches the control 26 the arm 24c is depressed so that the magnet 25 is raised in the aperture 11d. The magnetic effect exerted on the armature 22 ceases so that the lever 19 drops to grip the fabric 14. The lever 19 is subsequently returned from the position of Fig. 1 to that of Fig. 2 by a tapered surface 31a of a rail 31. In a modification, Fig. 4, the lever 24 is replaced by a bell-crank lever 124 on an arm 124c thereof carrying an armature insert 127. A second magnet 129 which may be permanent or electrically magnetized and is larger and stronger than the magnet 25 is mounted on a stationary arm 128 so as to pivot the lever 124 about its pivot 123 to disengage the magnet 25 and the armature 22.
