Abstract
A uranium based alloy comprises Mo 0.5-3 atomic per cent, Al 0.5-1.5 atomic per cent, the balance, apart from incidental impurities, being uranium. The method disclosed for making these alloys comprises melting the uranium by induction heating under vacuum with aluminium metal and a 3% or 6% master alloy of molybdenum with uranium, keeping the melt at 1550 DEG C. for 5 minutes, casting it into alumina lined graphite crucibles and allowing it to cool. The rods so formed are annealed at 500-600 DEG C. for 1-48 hours in argon. Specification 863,492 is referred to.
