Abstract

Uranium based alloys comprise: ..Mo 0.125-1.0.atomic per cent ..Nb 0.125-1.0." " " .and either.Al 0.5-2.0." " " .or.Cr 0.125-1.0." " " the balance being uranium plus incidental impurities. The alloys may be prepared by vacuum melting a charge of uranium metal and 3-6% molten alloys of Mo, Nb and Cr with uranium at 1550 DEG C. and casting still under vacuum into alumina sprayed graphite crucibles. Aluminium may be added as the metal. The cast rods are stress-relief annealed at 500-600 DEG C. for 1-48 hours. Specification 863,492 is referred to.
