Abstract

A high early strength Portland cement is obtained by intimately mixing the raw material with finely divided calcium hydrosilicate and/or hydro-aluminate. The calcium hydrosilicate or hydro-aluminate may be in an amount of 1 to 60% by weight of the raw material. A sulphide, or a compound which, during burning, yields a sulphide, may also be added. Pre-set Portland cement can be used as a source of calcium hydrosilicate and/or hydro-aluminate. In an example, 100 kg. dry, raw material such as is used for burning to give so-called early strength Portland cement is mixed in a tube mill with 25 kg. ground pre-set Portland cement, and 10 kg. coal are added. The mixture is burnt. The clinker is then milled with 6% gypsum. Concrete blocks are prepared from 1 part of this cement, 2 parts of sand, 4 parts of aggregate and a water/cement factor of 0.6.
