989,886. Beverage dispensing machines. VENDBAR INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 14, 1963 [Nov. 15, 1961], No. 40944/61. Headings A4D and A4T. Apparatus for preparing a beverage, e.g. coffee, soup, hot or cold, but particularly cold beverages formed by dispersion of powdered beverage base in refrigerated water, has several conical containers 4 of powdered base carried around a central shaft 32 turned by motor M to rotate a blending cup 30 positioned to receive powder from the apex opening 6 of a selected container 4 and water via pump P and pipe 54. A customer starts the apparatus by, e.g. a coin actuated switch, and engages a solenoid clutch 2 for a selected container whereby, under the control of a timing device, the motor drives the blender all the time the pump forces water into the cup, the motor via the clutch and gearing 92, 96 drives a powder agitator 18 and an auger 16<SP>1</SP> to deliver a quantity of powder to the cup, and a cup 55 is positioned to receive the beverage when a solenoid fork 49 lowers a funnel 37 to open peripheral cup valves through which the beverage is forced by centrifugal force to the dispensing nozzle 44. The apparatus hinges on arms 78, 78<SP>1</SP> out of its casing 82 for refilling, cleaning or repair.
