Abstract

1,024,287. Delivering measured quantities of granular material. MACHINE MADE SALES PTY. Ltd. Oct. 26, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 43573/64. Heading B8N. [Also in Divisions A4 and F2] Fluent material, e.g. powdered, coffee, milk, tea or sugar, is housed in a container 4 and dispensed through a neck 5 which contains a butterfly valve 11 mounted on a spindle 10, the valve being movable rapidly from one closed position through an intermediate open position to a second closed position. The valve may be elliptical or diamond shaped and the spout 7 of neck 5 of circular or square cross-section. The valve is operated by rotating a shaft 13 having a crank-arm 14 connected by a stretched tensionspring 15 to the free end of a crank-arm 16 on the spindle 10. On turning the shaft 13 the spring 15 is stretched and shifted until its line of action crosses a dead-centre position whereon the spring snaps the valve to the second closed position while dispensing a quantity of the material. This quantity is primarily the amount of material within the space swept through by the upper half of the valve 11 and thus it may be varied by altering the size of the valve 11, spout 7, or diameter of the spindle 10. An agitating rod 21 may be provided to prevent the material becoming compacted. Several dispensers may be incorporated in a beverage dispensing unit with a supply of hot water and disposable cups.
