Abstract
1401185 Beverage vending machine GKN SANKEY Ltd 6 Dec 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53502/71 Heading A4T [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] In a valve for a drink-vending machine a closure member 30 is provided with a projection 31 and the seat 32 at the inlet end of an outlet 15 is rounded so that flow through the valve when open is non-turbulent. The valve and its inlet 12 are immersed in a hot-water tank 51 to the level 59 and is actuated by a timer-controlled solenoid 19 against the closing bias of a spring 33. Flow through the outlet is adjusted by a conical projection 42 on a spider 43 which is movable relative a conical surface 45 on the outlet by rotating a threaded ring 35 on the valve body 16. Conical projection 31 may be right circular or outwardly concave or convex. The closure member 30 and the projection 31 are preferably of butyl rubber. The machine has four such valves 47-50 in the water heating tank 51 which is fed by a floatcontrolled header tank 53. The outlets of the valves 47, 48 communicate respectively with a tea-making unit 61 and a coffee-making station 64 the outlets from which pass through a milk and/or sugar station 62 to a cup 66. The outlets of the valves 49, 50 communicate respectively with a soup whipper 69 and a chocolate whipper 70 which have outlets 71, 72 feeding into a cup 66. After money is inserted into the machine the valve corresponding to the selected drink is energized and dispenses a predetermined amount of water.
