989,831. Desiccant compositions. FR. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK-A.G. June 18, 1963 [July 23, 1962], No. 24262/63. Heading B1L. [Also in Division B8] A gas-tight package which is internally free of any atmospheric oxygen and contains material which gives off carbon dioxide is provided with at least one insert containing a substance which combines with carbon dioxide. The substances used to absorb the carbon dioxide are either alkali or alkaline earth metal carbonates which are preferably mixed with reaction accelerators such as activated carbon or crushed coke and with water as necessary to the reaction. If basic magnesium carbonate is used a drying agent, e.g. silica gel or CaCl 2 may also be added to absorb the excess water produced by the reaction.
