989,465. Tobacco smoke filters. G. ROTHSTEIN. Jan. 15, 1962 [Jan. 14, 1961; Jan. 2, 1962], No. 1423/62. Headings A2C and A2M. A filter for incorporation in a cigarette mouthpiece or for use in a cigarette holder or tobacco pipe comprises a first filter chamber 1 divided from a second chamber 2 by a partition 3 in which an orifice 4 is formed from which a thread or wire 5 emanates. The orifice 4 may be offset with respect to the longitudinal axis of the filter and the partition 3 may be flat and either inclined to or at right angles to the longitudinal axis, or it may have a conical shape, the orifice being then located at the apex of the cone. Several threads or wires may emanate from the orifice 4, the extremities of the threads being arranged adjacent the inner circumference of the chamber 2. The orifice may have a variety of crosssectional shapes, e.g. polygonal, circular, rectilinear or curved slit. Specification 989,464 is referred to.
