Abstract

971,078. Tobacco pipes. G. E. LOVELL, and L. R. GILES. March 22, 1963 [April 6, 1962], No. 13312/62. Heading A2M. A tobacco pipe comprises a bowl portion 5 and a separate mouthpiece portion 11, a plurality of tubes 12, 13 and 14 extending between the portions 5, 11 and arranged so that smoke passes through them in succession, two of the tubes being formed by limb portions which are connected by a yoke portion disposed peripherally around the bowl. The portion 5 has a recess 7 for receiving the curved portion 15 of a generally U-shaped tube, the two arms 13 and 14 of which extend into the mouthpiece 11. The smoke drawn into the portion 5 passes into a tube 12, which may be detachable, into the mouthpiece 11, may pass through a filter 18, through a passage 16 into tube 13, around the portion 15 into the tube 14 and back into the mouthpiece to a passage 17 leading to the smoker's mouth. The mouthpiece 11 may be detachable from the tubes 12, 13 and 14. Filters may be provided in any suitable manner in the tubes 12, 13 or 14, and the mouthpiece 11 may have an opening for the removal and replacement of a filter. The curved portion 15 may be formed integrally with the bowl portion 5, the spaces between tubes 12, 13 and 14 may be filled or the tubes may be formed in a plastic moulding. The bowl portion 5 includes a finned section 6 and is screw threaded to receive a wooden bowl proper 8. The portion 5 may be made of plastic, may include a recess for receiving a filtering element and may have a hole 19 for receiving a tamping and cleaning tool 20. Specification 971,079 is referred to.
