Abstract

A sealing composition comprises a plasticizing elastomer, a curable elastomer and an accelerator adapted to effect vulcanization of the curable elastomer, only at or near at least the temperature of boiling water. The plasticizing elastomer may be a butyl rubber which may be chlorinated while the curable elastomer may be natural rubber, butadiene-styrene or lower polymers such as the semi-liquid product obtained by depolymerizing natural rubber. The composition may contain as additional ingredients:-fillers, antioxidants, pigments, lime dispersed in oil, liquid coumarone resins, finely divided cellulosic materials and phthalate plasticizers. The composition may be used for sealing the joints of tanks containing liquids.
