Abstract

Polyethylene film having a tendency to cling to smooth surfaces is made by uniformly blending high or low pressure polyethylene with from 5 to 20% by weight of paraffin oil or liquid petrolatum (B.P. range 150- to 300 DEG C.) and then extruding as a film. In an example polyethylene powder is fluxed at 210 to 230 DEG F. and mixed with mineral oil in a heated Banbury mixer. The mix is set up in slabs, is comminuted, ground or pelleted and is then extruded to give film which may range from 1/4 to 20 mils thick. The extruder may have a slot opening or may be of the type giving an enlarged and elongated bubble which is subsequently cut to a film. The film may be used in packaging or wrapping applications.
