Abstract
989,388. Deaerating water. PERMUTIT CO. Ltd. Nov. 7, 1963 [Nov. 12, 1962], No. 42672/62. Heading B1M. A deaerator comprises a vessel 6 having means to introduce steam thereinto (through perforated plate 7) below the level of water to be deaerated, a shallow tray 11 surrounded by a closed casing 2, means 13 to introduce steam at at least the same pressure below the level of deaerated water in said tray, and a pipe 12 adapted to convey water from said vessel to tray and extending below the liquid level in the tray whereby a column of water is formed in the pipe which compensates for the difference in pressure between steam leaving said vessel and entering said tray. As shown in the drawing, to which the above numerals relate, water to be deaerated is supplied to chamber 8 and there comes into dontact with steam and stripped gases rising from vessel 6, which are withdrawn at 9. The deaerated liquid overflows from vessel 6 into lower chamber 10 and thence via pipe 12 into the tray 11 which is located in the tank for deaerated water. A pressure-equalizing line 16 and trap 17 are provided to permit non-damaging blow-back into chamber 8 in the event of interruption of the steam supply in pipe 5: baffle 15 also serves a protective purpose in these circumstances..
