Abstract
989,194. Hatch covers. FIRMA PAUWELS & DE RIDDER P.V.B.A. April 25, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1962], No. 15681/62. Heading B7S. A ship's hatch cover comprises a plurality of panels 4, 5 and 6 each provided with legs 7 to 18 the length of which is different from panel to panel. Each leg is provided with a roller 22 which co-operates with guide rails 25, 26 at each side of the coaming. The guide rails are pivoted at 23, 24 so as to be movable in a vertical plane by jacks 29, 30, or a lifting gear 31. The rails 25, 26 may be moved to a position coincident with the rails 27, 28, extending from the hatchway, so that the panels may be moved to a stowed telescoped position at one side of the hatchway. The panels are provided with tongues and channels by which they may be hitched together and which act as seals in the hatch closed position. The rails 25, 26 may be moved on jacks which maintain them parallel to the deck 3 at all times. Specification 564,809 is referred to.
