Abstract

988,808. Floating covers for tanks. UNION TANK CAR CO. Dec. 6, 1962 [Dec. 8, 1961], No. 46075/62. Heading E1T In a floating cover of pontoon construction for a tank and in which the cover has an inflatable seal 28, means are provided for regulating the gas pressure within the seal according to the ambient temperature. The regulating means consist of an expansion chamber 38 subdivided into two chambers 60, 61 by a flexible diaphragm 55, the upper chamber 60 being vented to atmosphere and the lower chamber 61 communicating with a heat pump chamber 39, the seal 28 and a combined air replacement and venting valve 40, see also Fig. 3 (not shown). The diaphragm supports a weight control assembly 70 as shown or as modified for less critical control as shown in Fig. 5 (not shown). The portion has a series of spring- loaded centring wheels 30 and a rod 80 guidably received in a sleeve 81. For mode of operation, materials employed and pressures visualized the Specification should be referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 919,254.
