Abstract
988, 756. Knitting-machines. SCOTT & WILLIAMS Inc. Aug. 23, 1963 [Aug. 31, 1962], No. 33568/63. Heading D1C. A circular knitting machine of the cylinder and dial type has an annular gear 12 which carries a cam ring 28 which rests on a bearing surface 10 and is driven by a spur gear 14. Also carried on the gear 12 are a series of support posts 30 which move the dial cam ring 38 in relation to the cam ring 28. The dial is supported between the surfaces 48, 50 and 58 and has attached thereto a gear ring 46. The dial is kept in a stationary position by means of the gears 46, 70, 72, 74 and 20 which act as a planetary gear system. The annular gear 20 is mounted on the fixed chassis of the machine and is adjustable by means of screws 22 Fig. 2 (not shown) to be concentric with the needle cylinder. Both sets of bearing surfaces have radii at least 65% of the radii of the needle circles and the radii of the sets of bearing surfaces differ only by a small fraction of the diameter of the needle circle.
