988, 755. Knitting-machines. SCOTT & WILLIAMS Inc. Aug. 23, 1963 [Aug. 31, 1962], No. 33567/63. Heading D1C. A circular knitting machine of the stationary cylinder type has a dial 28 supported on a rotating member but is angularly fixed and adjustable with the needle cylinder 14, the fixing means comprising a cutter to cut the tubular fabric longitudinally as it leaves the needles so allowing the fabric to pass either side of the fixing means. The dial is rotatably supported by rings 22, 26 separated by a shim 24 on a ring 66 which is connected by members 50, 52, 56, 58, 60 and 62 to the needle operating cams 36 and this assembly is supported on a surface 12 and rotated by a chain drive 42 from a variable speed motor 48. Fig. 3 shows the assembly which cuts the fabric and locates the dial angularly relative to the cylinder. A bracket 78 is fixed to the frame 10 and bracket 68 is fixed to the dial supporting ring 22. A cutting wheel 88 driven from a motor 108 cuts the fabric E so that the edges can then pass over an outwardly extending portion 72. Angular location and adjustment is provided by the adjustable screws 80, 82 acting on the ear 74. The cutting wheel 88 is sharpened by a manually operated grinding wheel 116 Fig. 2 (not shown).
