Abstract
The invention comprises a process for the preparation of compounds of general formula <FORM:0988526/C2/1> wherein either R or R1 represents an acyl radical and the other represents, hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloallyl-alkyl (the alkyl portion contains 1 to 8 carbon atoms), or an aralkenyl optionally substituted by alkyl, alkoxy, nitro or chloro, by subjecting a compound of general formula <FORM:0988526/C2/2> wherein X is an acyl radical to debenzylation by catalytic hydrogenation under pressure, optionally submitting the product to rearrangement of the acyl group from N8 to N3, the action of an acidic or basic catalyst, for example by (a) heating to between 60 DEG and 140 DEG C. for 5 to 8 hours, (b) by refluxing in an alkanol water solution with hydrochloric acid, or (c) treating in an alkanol water solution at room temperature with an alkali metal hydroxide, and the resulting compound of formula <FORM:0988526/C2/3> wherein either X or Y is acyl and the other is hydrogen, is reacted with a compound of formula R halogen, where R has the above meaning other than acyl. N8 - Acyl - 3 - benzyl - 3,8 - diazabicyclo-[3,2,1]-octanes of the second general formula above are prepared by acylating 3-benzyl-3,8-diazabicyclo-[3,2,1]-octane.
