Abstract
987,977. Moulding paper on to backing; laminates. FORMWOOD Ltd. March 27, 1962 [March 30, 1961], No. 11697/61. Headings B5A and B5N. One or more sheets of paper coated with heathardenable plastics are first shaped by heating and bending without curing the plastics and then compression moulded on to a backing, of chipboard, hardboard or plywood, with further heating. Shaping is either by contact with heated bars 4 (Fig. 2) or with the preheated backing (Fig. 1, not shown). When pressing angles of 90 degrees or less (Fig. 3) pressure is applied in two directions, the ridge formed between the tools locating in the top or bottom of a salient or depression. The plastic coating may be melamine, phenol or urea formaldehyde resins.
