[Also in Division F1] A gear pump unit, particularly in a centralized lubricating installation, comprises an intermediate housing member 6, Fig. 1, mounting on one side an electric motor 5, on its other side a gear pump 7, and housing a pressure relief valve 19, Fig. 2, a combined non-return valve 30 and return flow control valve 36 and a residual pressure control valve 32. The pump driven through a coupling 13 discharges through a bore 15 into a duct 17 and thence through a duct 20 and the non-return valve 30 into the delivery pipe 16. The valve 30 controls through a disc 33 the return flow control valve 36 which controls a transverse bore 38 in a valve housing 31 slidably mounting the residual pressure control valve 32. Normally, when the pump is operating the valve 30 is unseated and the valve 36 closes the bore 38 so that oil is delivered through the pipe 16. On the pressure surge of the pump ceasing, the valve 30 closes and the valve 36 opens so that residual oil in the installation returns through the pipe 16, bore 38 and an axial bore 37, to open the valve 32. Oil can then flow through a return bore 40 which may be closed by a plug 41 or alternatively through a duct 23 and a return bore 24. To close this latter bore a closure screw 42 is replaced by a longer screw. To prime the pump, a duct 45, Fig. 3, opens to atmosphere or the tank and a loose-ball 46 co-operates with a duct 43. So long as air is pumped, air escapes through the duct 45. On oil being pumped the ball closes the duct 45 so that the pump delivers to the bore 15. Screwed plugs 26, 35 permit the easy removal of the valve parts for servicing.
