987,501. Forcing liquids by gaseous pressure. BECK & CO. (METERS) Ltd. April 19, 1962 [April 24, 1961], No. 14763/61. Heading FIR. A liquid dispensing device, e.g. for petrol, comprises a flexible bag 2 in a rigid tank 4 having an inlet 8 for pressure fluid, e.g. compressed air. A perforated cage 6 limits inward movement of bag 2. A control valve 10 in air inlet pipe 8 is coupled to a venting valve 18 so that when one closes, the other opens. A closure cap 34 on the petrol inlet pipe 32 and a bag vent valve 28 are locked closed by the air pressure in chamber 30 when valve 10 is opened. A valve 40 controlling delivery through pipe 36, 38 is actuated by the removal or replacement of the delivery nozzle on a support lever 46 which operates a valve 50 to connect the spring-loaded operating piston 68 of valve 40 either to atmosphere or to a source of compressed air. A sampling device 16 in pipe 12 detects the presence of leakage petrol in the vented air. A safety valve 22 is provided in vent pipe 12 and a frangible section 74 in air line 58. A float actuated valve 80 and a pressure-reducing valve 42 are provided in the delivery line. Bag 2 may comprise an inner lining of acrylonitrile, a reinforcement of nylon and an outer layer of neoprene.
