Abstract

1385931 Respirators BENDIX CORP 2 Feb 1972 [10 Feb 1971] 4927/72 Heading A5T [Also in Division F4] A liquid oxygen converter for a respirator system comprises a storage vessel 12, and a build-up circuit 20 connected between a liquid port 14 and a gas port 16 and comprising, in series, a pressure responsive valve 32 operable to interrupt the flow in the circuit when the pressure therein reaches a certain level, a stop valve 36 actuated by solenoids 120. 128 and having a closure member 110 latched in its open position, and a valve 42 relieving excess pressure in the vessel 12 by venting to atmosphere, a delivery line 28 leading to a regulator 30 being connected to the build-up circuit at 34. Gaseous oxygen is supplied to the respirator(s) by moving a toggle switch 40 on the regulator 30 to the ON position, energising solenoid 120 to move member 110 downwards until it latches with a shaft 126. Moving switch 40 to the OFF position energises solenoid 128 to move shaft 126 and thus release member 110 which is then moved to its closed position by springs 116, 140. The stop valve 36 may be actuated manually in the event of power failure. Valve 42 is contained with a filler connection 24 adapted to receive a supply source which opens a vent 70, liquid oxygen being delivered to the vessel 12 via non-return valve 60 and pipe 22. The level of liquid in vessel 12 is measured by a capacitive device 52. For Figure see next column
