987,447. Slagging combustion chambers. DURRWERKE A.G. Jan. 12, 1962 [March 21, 1961], No. 1180/62. Heading F4B. A turbulent slagging combustion chamberfor pulverulent or other fluent slag forming fuel has a vertical axis, a bottom slag outlet and an upper gas outlet surrounded by a slag separator collar 6 forming an annular inlet for air and gas. The burners 3 deliver fuel and air tangentially to a plane circle, and the combustion chamber walls and the double-walled separator collar 6 are lined with cooling tubes, heat resistant alloy plates forming nozzles 8 to direct tertiary combustion air or inert gas obliquely with or against the swirling flame, or axially downward. Baffles 11 reduce the swirl of the gases passing to a secondary combustion chamber 12, and tubes 10 connected between the lower edge of the collar 6 and the slag outlet supply coolant to the collar tubes and direct the flow of slag from the edge of the collar. The chamber may be used to burn comminuted refuse, the collar nozzles 8 forming ignition burners.
