Abstract
In a process for coating an article, the article is heated to a temperature of at least 80 DEG C. and dipped into a fluidized bed of particles prepared by the incorporation of a curing agent into a polyepoxide in the molten state, removed from the bed, and the coating thereon cured by heating it to at least 125 DEG C.; alternatively, the article may be sprayed with the particles and then cured by heating to at least 125 DEG C.; the curing agent being either (1) an adduct of a liquid mono- or di-epoxide (e.g. a liquid glycidyl ether or ester) and an aromatic amine containing at least two primary amine groups, (2) an adduct of a liquid epoxide as in (1) and an aromatic amine containing at least one primary and one secondary amino group, or (3) a boron trifluoride amine complex; many examples are given of each class. The coating composition may also include fillers, e.g. powdered slate or colloidal silica, pigments such as titanium dioxide or "Monastral Green" (Registered Trade Mark), and in one example, polyvinyl butyral.ALSO:In a process for coating an article, the article is heated to a temperature of at least 80 DEG C. and dipped into a fluidized bed of particles prepared by the incorporation of a curing agent into a polyepoxide in the molten state, removed from the bed, and the coating thereon cured by heating it to at least 125 DEG C.; alternatively, the article may be sprayed with the particles and then cured by heating to at least 125 DEG C.; the curing agent being either (1) an adduct of a liquid mono- or di-epoxide (e.g. a liquid glycidyl ether or ester) and an aromatic amine containing at least two primary amine groups, (2) an adduct of a liquid epoxide as in (1) and an aromatic amine containing at least one primary and one secondary amino group, or (3) a boron trifluoride amine complex; many examples are given of each class. The objects which may be coated include hammers, bolts, pins, tubular sleeves, hooks, ventilators, screens, switches, electrical fittings, protective caps and guards.
