[Also in Division B3] A T-shaped self-piercing nut, Fig. 1, having undercut grooves along at least one pair of parallel sides is forced through one or more panels having a die button such that the square corners of the pilot portion 22 are extruded upwardly against the underface of head to fill the corners of the aperture(s) formed in the panel during the piercing operation (see Division B3). The nut head portions may have notches 109, Fig. 9, and the head portions are deformed on assembly, Fig. 10 (not shown). The nut may have grooves at each side, Figs. 5-7 (not shown).
