Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0987069/C2/1> (in which R is a thiazolyl, isothiazolyl or thiadiazolyl radical, either unsubstituted or C1- 5 alkyl-substituted, R1 is a hydrogen atom, a C1- 5 alkyl or C2- 5 alkenyl group or an acyl group, and R2 is an alkoxy, alkylthio, aryloxy or arylthio group) and non-toxic acid addition salts of those compounds in which R1 is not an acyl group, pharmaceutical and veterinary preparations and animal feedstuffs containing them, and their preparation by (a)-for compounds in which R1 is a hydrogen atom-reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:0987069/C2/2> (in which Y is a nitro or amino group, one R2 is an alkoxy, alkylthio, aryloxy or arylthio group, and the other R2 is a hydrogen atom), with RCOOH or a derivative thereof, reducing the product when it contains a nitro group, and treating the resulting o-aminoanilide with an acid, optionally followed by conversion to the free base or an acid addition salt, or (b)-for compounds in which R1 is a C1- 5 alkyl or C2- 5 alkenyl group or an acyl group-reacting an alkali metal derivative of the corresponding compound in which R1 is a hydrogen atom with an appropriate alkylating, alkenylating or acylating agent, optionally followed by conversion to an acid addition salt when R1 in the product is an alkyl or alkenyl group. The compounds of the invention are anthelmintics and may be administered orally in the form of pharmaceutical or veterinary preparations (e.g. boluses and liquid drenches) containing them together with a diluent or carrier, as a constituent of animal feedstuffs or feedstuff additives, or in drinking water.
