Abstract
986,789. Pole - charging induction motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 25, 1964, No. 3317/64. Heading H2A. In a resistance split-phase, change-pole induction motor having separate main windings for each pole-number, one of the polewindings of one pole-number is also used during operation at the other pole-number and lies in the same slots as the corresponding pole-winding of that other polenumber. Thus, coils 51, 52, 53 forming pole 51 in four-pole operation, is energized in series with six-pole winding A-F when this is in use, and its coils 61, 62, 63, 64 lie in substantially the same slots as those of six-pole coil A. Since coil A is thus assisted it is of fewer turns than the other six-pole coils C and E. As shown in Fig. 1 (not shown), the depth of the stator yoke section is related to the four-pole flux being greatest between the poles, while the cross-sections of the teeth are greatest near the pole-centres in six-pole operation. Other polenumbers are possible.
