Abstract
1311098 Dynamo-electric machines CAV Ltd 1 June 1970 [13 June 1969] 30116/69 Heading H2A In a dynamo-electric machine, e.g. an I.C.E. series wound starter motor, comprising an armature 12 having a commutator 13, and a field structure 11 having a winding through which current can be passed to polarize four polepieces 10, the winding is formed as a pair of equal length coils 17, 18 each so deformed as to define four straight portions disposed between respective adjacent polepieces 10 one of which portions includes the coil start and finish, and the coils are so mutually positioned that the start and finish of one coil is disposed 180 degrees with respect to those of the other. This avoids the magnetic unbalance, which would otherwise obtain, with a single winding coil (15), Fig. 2, due to both the start and finish passing between only one pair of polepieces (10a). Each coil may have more than the one turn shown, and the turns may be connected mutually in series or in parallel.
