Abstract

986,684. Spouts for containers. P. G. ROBINSON. April 25, 1963 [April 7, 1962; Sept. 19, 1962], Nos. 13496/62 and 35614/62. Heading B8D. A tubular spout of resilient material for a metal container or bottle has at one end a peripheral flange 4 having a number of lugs 8 and at the other end a series of radial projections 6 formed on the chamfered end 5 of a skirt portion 2 of the tube 1, and a further series of projections 7 may be formed above and offset to the projections 6. The chamfered end 5 enables the spout to slide easily into the neck 9 of a container, its inward movement being limited by the flange 4. On partial withdrawal, Fig. 4, the projections 7 engage the rim 10 of the container neck to prevent inadvertent retraction of the spout, and projections 6 prevent complete withdrawal. A cap 11 gripped by lugs 8 may be used to aid withdrawal of the spout, the cap being removable by use of a little extra force.
