986,533. Optical filters. TIME Inc. May 15, 1962 [May 14,1961],No. 18668/62. Heading G2J. A filter for use in a facsimile in black and white or colour apparatus (described in detail) is placed in a light beam which passes through an original on its way to a photo-electric device and provides for the beam of light a transmissivity which progressively decreases within the path radially outwards from a central axis. The transmissivity may vary continuously or in steps. Fig. 9 shows a "stepped" filter which comprises superimposed transparent developed film sheets 310, 313, 315 with central apertures 311, 312, 316 of different apertures. This filter may be photographed to provide single sheet filters of "stepped" or "continuous" form. Specifications 765,443, 765,444, 794,201, 827,865, 986,531, 986,532 and 986,534 are referred to.
