[Also in Division H1] A light-sensitive probe for a flame-detection system includes a thermally sensitive layer located between a photo-resistor and the flame for controlling the intensity of illumination incident on the detector. The arrangement is utilized to protect systems in which the increase in dark current due to a rise in temperature may erroneously give a flame present indication. As shown in Fig. 1, the casing of a photo-resistor 1 connected by wires 2 to a control circuit has an aperture 5 receiving light from a flame 3 via a filter 6 carried by a plate 7. The filter 6 is of a material such as Cu 2 Hg I 4 whose translucence is reduced by an increase in its temperature. The filter 6 may be replaced by, or combined with, a filter of which the spectral range is displaced from the most sensitive range of the detector with increase of temperature. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the photo-resistor is enclosed in a casing having its wall surfaces which are subjected to the incident light coated with a substance having decreasing translucence with increase in temperature.
